Abstract

692,814. Filtering air. KAUFMANN, H. J. Jan. 7, 1952 [Feb. 2, 1951], No. 29540/50. Class 8 (ii). In an air cleaner in which dust-laden air entering at c' is drawn through the open bottoms of textile sleeves b up the insides thereof and passes through the sleeve material into compartments a in which the sleeves are suspended and out of the compartments through ducts e to a common exhaust f, spring-closed doors a' in the walls of the compartments a are opened in predetermined order by cams k on a shaft m engaging arms j secured on shafts g which are secured to the doors and rotate in fixed bearings h, the opening of any such door admitting a rush of ambient air into the compartment, checking or reversing the flow of air through the sleeves b and agitating them so that dust is shaken down into a common hopper c, no mechanical device being used to agitate the sleeves. Where the shafts g pass through the outlet ducts e they carry valves e' which partially close the ducts as the doors a' open. The shafts g are mounted off centre on the doors a to permit the vacuum normally in the compartments n to assist in keeping the doors closed.
