Abstract

515,058. Pneumatic separators. BLAKE, H. E. May 20, 1938, No. 15129. [Class 117] In a separator having a chute provided with slats or the equivalent in stepped formation over which the material passes, air being passed between the slats to draw awav dust at the underside of the material, an imperforate surface is provided for the passage of the material before it reaches the slats. In the form shown, the material leaving the hopper 10 passes over the plain surface 20 before reaching the slats 15 between which air currents pass and convey the dust along the duct 24 to the cyclone separator 25 above which is a chamber 29 containing a filter cloth 30, the clean air escaping to the atmosphere at 34. Above the slats is a series of adjustable hinged flaps 21A enabling the air currents to be varied and a series of freely hanging flaps 21B'to effect even distribution of the material, but these flaps are omitted if a closed air circuit is employed, in which case the duct 35 replaces the outlet 34. The slats 15 may be covered with rubber. In a modification. the chute containing the slats 15 is given reciprocating motion and is joined to the duct 24 by a flexible connection.
