Classes 66 and 125(iii) A removable hoop-member constituting a locking-ring for securing a lid or closure plate on a container in known manner is provided with perforated lugs extending axially from it and a bail-handle whereof the ends are hook-shaped to be engaged with said lugs. The container 10 has a beaded rim 11 on which the lip 13 of a lid 12 is secured by means of a ring or hoop-member 15. A gasket 14 may be interposed between the rim 11 and lip 13. The ring 15 is divided at one point to enable it to be expanded and contracted as required and the two ends are locked by means such as a key 26 passing behind a tongue 16 on one end kinked to project through an opening in the other end. The ring 15 has lugs 17 welded thereto to accommodate the ends of a wire handle 18 which is secured by turning the ends 19 inwardly to form hooks. The handle is substantially semi-circular and lies closely to the wall of the container 10 when in transit or storage; it may have a rubber grip or a straight segment to receive a wooden grip 20. In use the ring_ 15 is released for removal of the lid 12 and is then replaced on the rim 11 in the reverse position so that the lugs 17 extend upwardly and the handle 18 is available as in Fig. 2. Alternatively the weight of the container may be taken directly by the handle by replacing the ring 15 below the rim 11, as in Fig. 3, such that the ends 19 of the handle bear against the underside of rim 11; or the ring 15 may be replaced as in Fig. 1, but with the lid 12 removed, the ends 19 again taking the weight directly. The handle may be permanently secured to the ring 15, or may be readily attachable thereto and packed separately for transport.
