Abstract
691,948. Deflecting fluid jets. SOC. NATIONALE D'ETUDE ET DE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS D'AVIATION. Feb. 27, 1951. [April 28, 1950] No. 4773/51. Class 4. In an arrangement for deflecting a fluid jet according to the parent Specification, the deflection is obtained by injecting into the fluid stream, in a direction at an angle thereto, an auxiliary jet of fluid supplied from a source other than the fluid jet. Fig. 2 shows a convergent - divergent nozzle with an inlet 7 in the throat, through which compressed air is injected in a direction inclined to the main stream of fluid. Fig. 3 shows a further arrangement in which compressed air is discharged through openings 8 in an axially disposed tube, to obtain an outward deflection of the jet. To obtain an inward deflection of the jet, the openings 8 may be formed in an annular duct surrounding the end of the jet nozzle, Fig. 4 (not shown).
