[Also in Group XXXVII] Two mechanically coupled D.C. dynamoelectric machines are connected in series across a constant source, and the excitation of the fields is varied by gauged rheostats to obtain a variable voltage from one machine. Switches are provided to change to an ordinary motordriven booster arrangement.
