Abstract
691,133. Luminescent materials. T H O R N ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Dec. 21, 1950 [Dec. 31, 1949], No. 31169/50. Class 39(i). The firing ingredients of an antimony activated calcium halophosphate contain an antimony compound which is in a higher state of oxidation than antimony trioxide, and the firing is carried out in an inert atmosphere. The compound may be one or more of antimony tetroxide, calcium metaantimonate, calcium pyro-antimonate, manganese meta-antimonate, manganese pyro-antimonate, calcium or manganese fluo-antimonate or antimonic acid. Manganese is introduced as an additional activator. The inert atmosphere my be nitrogen, carbon dioxide, argon, helium, neon, krypton or xenon. The firing may be in crucibles which proceed slowly through an oven at 1900-1975‹C, a stream of the inert gas moving in the opposite direction. Comparison is made of a material prepared from calcium carbonate, manganese carbonate, calcium fluoride, ammonium chloride, secondary calcium phosphate and antimony trioxide with a similar mixture using antimony tetroxide. Antimony trichloride is stated to act as a flux. Specifications 684,025 and 691,127 are referred to.
