Class 107 A material compacting machine comprises a shoe composed of channel members 5 secured to base bars 4 and adapted to be moved longitudinally of the channels. An electric motor 15 with an unbalanced rotor shaft vibrates the whole assembly at a high.frequency, i.e. 2,500-5,000 vibrations per minute, and is so placed with respect to the centre of gravity as to cause the machine to move forwardly when in operation. A sole plate 10 is provided at the front. Two cables 24 are provided for the operator to steer the machine.
