Abstract

690,525. Automatic feed control systems. ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. May 10, 1951, No. 10981/51. Class 38 (iv). [Also in Groups V and XXIV] A rod of toffee is formed in a machine 12 which may be of the kind described in Specification 485,293, [Group V], and is fed over a movable platform 13 to a cutting and forming machine which may be of the kind described in Specification 439,738, [Group V]. The platform is responsive to variations in the weight of toffee passing over it and acts automatically through an electrical, mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic control to vary the relative speeds of the machines or to control a driving clutch. As shown, when the weight of toffee on the platform exceeds a certain amount, the platform pivots against a weight 18 and closes contacts of a switch 21 to stop or retard a motor 22 driving the machine 12. When the surplus toffee has been removed from the platform, it automatically returns to its former position. The platform may be slidably mounted and act against springs, and it may be mounted on either machine. In a modification, the speed of the cutting and forming machine may be controlled. One machine is driven at a slightly greater speed than the other, depending upon which machine is being controlled..
