718,443. Dispensing measured quantities of granular material. BRITISH INDUSTRIAL PLASTICS, Ltd. Nov. 26, 1952 [Nov. 30, 1951; May 2, 1952], Nos. 28199/51 and 11101/52. Class 106(5) [Also in Groups V and XXIX] A die holder 5 and hopper 13 are moved to the right over a stationary punch 15. to allow powdered material in the hopper to enter the die cavity 9, Fig. 2A. The die holder is then moved further to the right, to allow the moulded powder to fall out of a cavity under gravity, Fig. 4A. In a modification, a punch 12 may be moved to compress the material (see Group V). When the machine is only to be used for measuring charges of material, a lever 88 is moved out of the path of a cam 89 on the die holder. The ends of the bunches may be profiled and the die cavity may be circular, elliptical, square triangular or polygonal. Several opposed punches and die cavities may be operated simultaneously. The machine is operated hydraulically (see Group XXIX). To adjust the gap between the punches 12, 15 to vary the amount of the charge an adjustable stop 107 is provided for the piston 10. The movement of the die holder is correspondingly adjusted automatically. The first Provisional Specification describes a similar machine in which the air valves controlling the hydraulic circuit are controlled electrically instead of mechanically and the hopper may be partitioned in order that charges may be formed of different types of material.
