Abstract

1,221,861. Rotary table press. R. ALTIERI. 12 March, 1968 [23 March, 1967], No. 12016/68. Heading B5A. In a rotary table press the moulds are intermittently indexed through a lower punch cleaning station, a lubricating station, a power feeding station, a precompacting station, a compression moulding station and an ejecting station. The moulds 10, Fig. 3, are interchangeable and are carried by a table 7, the bottom of each mould cavity being defined by a reciprocating plunger the actuating mechanism of which comprises an interrupted annular cam 30 on which ride roller bearings 14 which periodically enter shoe members 15, 41, connected to pistonrods 16, 42 at the lubricating and pre-compaction stations. At the cleaning station, the surface of the lower plunger 48 is raised and cleaned by an electrically driven brush, and on retraction of the plunger a brush attached thereto cleans the mould cavity walls. At the lubricating station, the lower plunger 48 is lowered by a downward movement of shoe member 15 and a compressed air gun is actuated to spray the mould cavity with a lubricating powder or liquid. At the filling station, the mould is aligned with a hopper 3, Fig. 12, which is continuously supplied with powder by a screw conveyer and which contains a stirrer 46, 47 driven through belt gearing by an electric motor. The lowest position of the lower plunger 48 can be adjusted to regulate the delivered dosage. At the pre-compacting station the mould is closed by a plate 27, Fig. 13, carried by the piston-rod of a pneumatic cylinder and the plunger 48 is raised by operation of the pneumatic motor 42. As the mould moves from the pre-compacting to the compression station an air gun sprays the compacted material with a lubricant and the surface of the upper plunger 26 is cleaned by the rotating brush and is sprayed with lubricant from a second air gun. At the compression station, the plunger 26 is moved to compress the material. At the ejecting station, the moulded article is gripped between pincer members carried by a plate which is then rotated through 180 degrees to deliver the article to a belt conveyer which feeds the article to a packaging station.
