Abstract

690,409. Dosimeters. BRITISH OPTICAL & PRECISION ENGINEERS, Ltd. Jan. 31, 1952 [May 2, 1951], No. 10311/51. Class 37. An electroscope for measuring a degree of ionization comprises an outer tube 1 containing a shorter, second tube 2 incorporating a microscope 6, 7 with a scaled graticule 8, and a wire support 3 carrying a fibre loop 4, the respective distances being such that the loop 4 is focused on the graticule 8 when viewed from the eyepiece 5. The support 3 and fibre 4 are associated with a fixed, insulated, cylindrical electrode 12, which may be charged through a rod 15 by an insulated, spring-loaded plunger 18, mounted in transparent discs 16, 19 to allow ingress of light from the further end 20 of the tube 1. The upper part 11 of the tube 1 constitutes an ionization chamber.
