Abstract
690,206. Engine assisted cycles. ALEXANDER, F. W. Sept. 11, 1951, No. 21399/51. Classes 79 (iii) 136 (i) and 136 (iii). An autocycle has an engine 11 mounted over the front wheel and enclosed by a.bonnet 13 which is fixed to the front forks 12 and steering column 21, a diagonal composite beam 39 extending rearwardly from the bonnet and secured to the seat tube. The bonnet is supported on a fairing 22 attached to a mudguard 23 which incorporates an asbestos lined exhaust tube 26 which is connected to the engine by a tube 27. The front of the handle bar 31 is enclosed by the bonnet which is lowered at 14 to cool the engine. The engine has a friction driving wheel 15 which is brought into contact with the front wheel tyre by a control rod 18 and handle 19 which turns the engine as a whole on its mounting. The beam 39 consists of tubes 37, 38 enclosed in a sheet metal cover 42. The upper tubes 37 extend rearwardly to form wheel forks 48 which support a pair of carrier support tubes 51. The fairing 54 encloses the seat tube 41 and the tubes 48, 51 and forms with the rear mudguard 55 a tool box or carrier enclosure 56. A fuel tank is enclosed in the mean 39. The frame is reinforced by stays 47 and 52.
