Abstract

690,027. Wave guides. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 19, 1949 [Jan 23, 1948], No. 1517/49. Class 40 (viii). A rectangular wave-guide 10 is joined to a circular guide 12, the longer transverse side of the wave-guide being parallel to the axis of the circular guide. A stub of the circular guide of length b=9/16 wavelength, is closed by an endplate 13 extending from which is a diametral web 14 having an axial extension a= 1/8 wavelength, and arranged at 45 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the rectangular guide 10. An H01 wave entering from guide 10 encounters web 14 and reflecting end-plate 13 to produce two components at right angles and 90 degrees out of phase, that is a circularly polarized H11 wave moving to the right in circular guide 12. An inductive diaphragm 11 is provided for matching. Two such assemblies having the circular guides connected by rotatable choke joints, provide relatively rotatable rectangular guides for feeding a rotatable antenna. In this case the lengths of the circular guides is immaterial.
