Abstract

689,897. Cigarettes. MOLINS, D. W., BARTLE, P. J.; and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. July 14, 1950 [July 19, 1949; Nov. 24, 1949], Nos. 19000/49 and 30200/49. Class 130. In a cigarette comprising a tobacco filler, a paper tube, and a mouthpiece portion, the tube is provided with a patch, line or the like of adhesive material on a part of its interior surface which encloses a part of the tobacco filler and which is in close proximity to the inner end of the mouthpiece portion. In Fig. 1 a cigarette paper is provided with lines of adhesive 1 at positions adjacent the ends of double-length sections of tobacco filler T deposited thereon together with double-length mouthpieces F. The composite rod formed therefrom is cut at the points C. In Fig. 2 a cigarette paper for forming a cigarette rod is provided with lines of adhesive 1 at the points C<SP>1</SP>, at which the rod is cut to provide double-length rod sections T. These sections are subsequently joined to mouthpiece sections by means of cork bands and the resulting composite rod cut at the mid-points of the mouthpiece and rod sections. The adhesive used, e.g. sodium silicate, preferably renders the cigarette paper incombustible at that point, and if it shows through the paper an external wrapper or tip of cork or paper may be applied to hide it.
