Abstract

689,593. Vehicle wheels. COURTNEY, O. H. B. Aug. 17, 1951 [Aug. 24, 1950], No. 20970/50. Class 144 (i). A tension-spoke bicycle &c. wheel comprises a pair of metal discs having triangular cut-away portions leaving flat strip spokes and peripheral rim-portions connected by welding, the spokes being tensioned by means of a hub member fitted between, and spreading, their inner ends. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the discs are formed with radial spokes 2 extending between centre-portions 7 and the outer flanged edges 3 of the discs which are welded together to form the rim, the centre-portions 7 being spaced apart by the end-flanges 6 of a hub-member 5. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, a separately-formed rim 11 is welded to the edges 10 of the discs, the wheel-centre being reinforced by a flanged internal hubsleeve 13. In a further modification, the spokes are disposed tangentially to the hub.
