689,401. Covering wire cores by extrusion. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES, Ltd. July 26, 1951 [July 27, 1950], No. 18797/50. Class 87 (ii). The die has a tapering part 3 and a long cylindrical part 4, and the core tube has a tapering part 8 which lies within the tapering die part 3 and a cylindrical extension 10 which lies within the rear end of the part 4, the extension 10 having a length several times its diameter. The die is heated by means 5, 6, and the coated core is passed into a tube 15 supplied with cooling water. Thermoplastic material, e.g. polytetrafluorethylene, is forced through the die by a tubular plunger 11 which surrounds the core tube. The plunger is reciprocated by a forked bell crank 13. The core tube is held stationary but adjustable as shown at 12.
