Abstract
634,643. Injection-moulding. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. June 3, 1946, No. 16791. Convention date, June 2, 1945. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XI] Granulated thermoplastic and thermosetting moulding material is heated to a temperature rendering it substantially ready for immediate use in a transfer moulding machine, by allowing it to fall in a thin stream 6 through a vertical and electrically heated tubular metal member 5. The tube 5 is preferably about sixteen foot long and may be heated by the passage of current therethrough. The tube 5 is surrounded by an internally polished copper tube 9 having a telescoped extension 15 attached to but insulated from its lower end, the extremities of the concentric tubes being sealed together and the resulting space between them evacuated. The heated material, at an average temperature of 400‹ F., collects in a horizontal cylinder 18 from which it is forced into a die 24 and 25. The granules are preferably of approximately rice size and the temperature of the tube 5 is about 1,000‹ F.
