689,155. Automatic firearms. VERWALTUNGSGES DER WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Aug. 1, 1951 [Oct. 23, 1950], No. 18270/51. Class 92(ii) Relates to automatic firearms of the kind in which the cartridge belt is moved into the firearm by a star wheel 9 coupled to a drum 3 having a plurality of cartridge chambers, and in which the cartridges are moved by a movable slide 4 in one stroke to an intermediate position and in the next stroke into one of the chambers. According to the invention movable spring-supported elements 12 are arranged on the star wheel to engage the bottom-of the cartridges when in the intermediate position in such manner as to prevent them moving rearwards. Fig. 3 shows a pivoted element 12 engaging the base of a round. The slide 4 is actuated by a gas piston 6, has an inclined groove for engaging rollers 5 on the drum so as to rotate the latter, and has two lugs 10, 11, the first serving to move the rounds .to the intermediate position and the second serving to complete the movement.
