Abstract

689,077. Transformers. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. March 13, 1951 [April 8, 1950], No. 5977/51. Class 38 (ii). In a three-phase core 1, for electrical induction apparatus, comprising three separate U-shaped members 2 ... 4 each formed of strips of mag netic material extending from end to end of the member and consisting of a straight winding leg 5 and two yokes 6, 7 normal thereto, the ends of the yokes are worked smooth to present flat joint surfaces and the three members are so arranged relative to each that the yokes of two members 2, 3 meet in a straight line arrangement by butt joints between their respective yoke surfaces 9 to form a complete core loop, and the joint surfaces 11 of the third member 4 form butt joints at 12, 13 with the respective side of, and adjacent the butt joints between, the other two members, thereby forming a core which is T-shaped when viewed in plan. The core material is flatwise bent, grain orientated steel, and the laminations may be bonded together. In a modification, the yoke laminations are separated into groups, and into the space between each group is inserted a magnetic locking lamination which extends over the whole joint area. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 657,888.
