Abstract

688,883. Projectile fuzes. MEFINA SOC. ANON. May 31, 1951 [July 10, 1950], No. 12859/51. Class 9(i) A clockwork time fuze is provided with locking means comprising at least two centrifugal clockwork-movement-locking levers arranged symmetrically one on each side of the axis of the fuze, each being pivoted eccentrically and subjected to spring action tending to maintain the member in the locking position, the two members being in mutual engagement so that each member can only move out of the locking position when the other does. The two locking levers 1, 1α are pivoted at 2, 2a on the upper frame plate 11 of the clockwork movement and carry stop pins 3, 3a passing through arcuate openings 12, 12a in the plate 11. The pins engage notches 8, 8a of the balance wheel 7 of the clockwork, which is thus locked the levers being urged to the locking position by springs 6, 6a. Each lever has a front nose, 4, 4a engaging a rear nose 5, 5a at the end of the long arm of the other lever, so that the levers can only move outwardly under the action of centrifugal force sufficient to overcome the action of the springs 6, 6a, i.e. after firing of the projectile in which the fuze is fitted. The stop pins 3, 3a then move along their slots to take up positions 3<SP>1</SP>, 3<SP>11</SP>. More than two co-operating locking levers may be provided and they may control some other part of the clockwork movement insead of the balance wheel.
