Abstract

Class 65(1) A lever 1, for the remote manual operation of one or more doors, e.g. passenger vehicle doors, through motion transmitting means, comprises a manually-releasable spring loaded catch member 14 mounted on the lever and provided with an inclined abutment surface 17 which engages a fixed pin 20 to retain the lever in a pre-selected position (corresponding to the closed position of the doors), and which can ride over the pin, against the spring loading of the catch, to release the lever upon the application of a pre-determined force to the doors. The motion transmitting means may be a mechanical linkage or a hydraulic master and slave system. The lever 1 is a tube pivotally mounted at 5 between a pair of fixed plates 2, and a rod 8, axially movable in the tube, connects the latch member 14 to a spring loaded press-knob 11 by which the lever is normally released. The latch member slides axially in slots 15 in the lever, and has a second, vertical, abutment surface 16 which makes normal engagement with a second fixed pin 20 in the open position of the doors. The doors are thus positively locked in the open position, but can be forced from the closed position in an emergency. The pins 20 act as distance pieces between the plates 2, and are located in one of a plurality of pairs of apertures 24 in the plates to allow for variation in the range of movement of the lever. Each pin has an eccentric central portion 21 for engagement with the latch, and a fine adjustment of the range of movement of the lever can be obtained by rotating the pin on its axis.
