688,414. Knot-tying devices. COOK & CO., MANCHESTER, Ltd., and COOK, D. N. Sept. 17, 1951 [Sept. 16, 1950], No. 22817/50. Class 112. In order to make a more secure knot, in a hand knotter of the kind in which a bill is carried by a spindle rotatable in a frame by a toothed sector, delay-action mechanism is provided to be actuated by the initial and final movements of the quadrant and stationary during an intermediate period while the bill is given an additional rotation. In the device described, which is shown without the side members of the frame and the thread-manipulating mechanism mounted on those members, the bill 10 is rotatably mounted in a frame member 9 and is actuated in the usual way by a toothed sector 11, with a hand-lever 14, engaging a worm spindle carrying the bill. The sector 11 has a cam-slot 31, engaging a pin connecting two arms 28 which actuate the mechanisms carried by the respective side members of the frame, and two pins 22, 23, engaging curved slotted members 24 which lie on either side of it and have upward arms 33 carrying pins arranged to engage notches in members 35 pivoted on the frame member 9. In operation the members 33 first move with the sector 11 until they are stopped by the members 35, as shown, then remain stationary while the sector continues to rotate the bill until the pins 22 reach the front end of the slots in the members 24, which then resume their movement and actuate the members 35 to finish the knot.
