Abstract
983,389. Yarn hank opening devices. LEESONA HOLT Ltd. Feb. 4, 1964, No. 4588/64. Heading D1J. A yarn hank opening device comprises a single drive means for moving a plurality of arms from a closed position to an open position and vice versa, characterized in that there is a common yielding element arranged to allow the arms to yield collectively when any one of the arms becomes obstructed during closing movement thereof, the drive means continuing to operate despite yielding of the arms. In Fig. 1 anti-clockwise rotation of the shaft 11 causes a collar 13, having a radial flat 14, to abut against and move a pawl 16 carried by a pinion 12. The resulting rotation of the pinion 12 rotates a plurality of further pinions 18 the pinions 18 carrying cranked arms 19 that are thus expanded apart, When the shaft 11 is driven clock- . wise, a tension spring 21 causes the pinion 12 to follow the shaft 11 with the pawl 16 pressing against the flat 14. If one of the arms 19 becomes obstructed during its closing movement it will stop and cause the other arms to stop, the pinion 12 being then held stationary against the force exerted by the spring means 21. The collar 13 continues to rotate with the drive shaft 11 but no drive is transmitted to the pinion 12.
