578,812. Animal feeding appliances. BRIGGS, K. B. March 7, 1944, No. 4220. [Class 5 (ii)] Pig and like troughs 3 continuously supplied from a hopper 4 are opened for feeding purposes for predetermined times at predetermined intervals. Shutters 5 are moved between the closed vertical position and the open, chain-line, position through a crank and connecting-rod from a shaft 6 when this is rotated through 180‹. The connecting-rod consists of telescopic tubes 8a, 8b held extended by a compression spring 8c. A latch 9 pivoted to the lower part of the shutter and resiliently connected to the tube 8a locks the door in the closed position but is released as the tubes 8a, 8b are drawn apart. The shaft 6 is driven from an electric-motor through reduction and maltese-cross mechanisms and is controlled by two double-throw switches, one being a time-switch and the other a stop-switch. The time-switch controlling mechanism produces a change-over at, say, every four hours. The stop-switch is reversed by a small star wheel engaging a stud in the maltese mechanism. The maltese mechanism may be omitted, control being by time-switches only.
