Abstract

In making a composite metal article, e.g. a saw blade, by fusion welding a working edge to a backing portion many examples of the following types of steels are described: (a) high-speed steels; (b) wear-resisting steels; (c) corrosion- and heat-resisting steels; and (b) backing steels. The percentage constituent ranges are: (a) 1.22-0.7 C, 4.65-3.75 Cr, 18.5-1.45 W, 3.0-1.10 V, 8.7-0 Mo, 9.0-0 Co; (b) 2.25-0.3 C, 13.0-0 Cr, 12.0-0 W, 1.0-0 V, 1.7-0 Mo, 3.0-0 Co, 13.0-0 Mn; (c) 1.1-0.06 C, 1.5-0.4 Mn, 2.25-0.4 Si 28.0-8.0 Cr, 35.0-0 Ni, 4.0-0 W, 4.0-0 Mo, 40.0-0 Co, 4.0-0 Cb, 0.5-0 Ti, 0.15-0 N, 0.25-0 S; (d) 0.5-0.1 C, 0.8-0.4 Mn, 0.3-0.2, Si, 1.0-0 Cr, 1.8-0 Ni, 0.35-0 Mo, 0.2-0 V.
