A machine for folding and zig-zag interleaving cigarette papers in which paper strips from bobbins equal in number to the number of papers in each package to be produced are led over guide rollers and then interfolded by means of a folding comb comprising sets of interengaging teeth, is characterised in that the bobbins are arranged in upper and lower rows and that the strips are fed in contact from the guide rollers towards the folding comb, the prolongation of the contact plane of the strips intersecting the folding comb. Strips 6a and 6b are supplied from bobbins 1a, and 1b arranged in two arcuate rows one above the other, the bobbins in each row being staggered axially of one another, such that corresponding pairs of webs fed therefrom overlap one another. The strips pass between guide rollers 5a and 5b and between a guide comb comprising rack members 4a and 4b, Figs. 1 and 5, adjustably mounted longitudinally of the webs by a slide 25, the upper member 4a being adjustable and removable by loosening screws 7. The strips then converge towards a folding comb 3a, 3b having interengaging teeth which fold the strips into V-form, adjacent webs being interleaved as shown in Fig. 3. The interleaved strips then pass through a channel 9 having a fan-shaped entrance, to feed rollers 11-14 and a cutting tool 20. Tensioning webs.-In order to tension the strips 1a and 1b longitudinally, the bobbins 1a and 1b are braked by brake discs 22 and 23, Fig. 4. The disc 23 is axially adjustable on a shaft carrying bobbin halves 21 to engage one of the halves, while a spring 24 urges the disc 22 into contact with the other of the halves 21.
