687,531. Reversing gearing. EICKHOFF, MASCHINENFABRIK UND EISENGIESSEREI, GEB. Dec. 29,1950 [Jan. 2, 1950], No. 31534/50. Class 80 (ii). In gearing comprising a toothed gear 4, Fig. 1, splined on each of two oppositely-rotating driving shafts 2, 3 and selectively slidable into engagement with a gear on the driven shaft by forks 6, 7, the latter are pivoted on a transverse spindle 8 operable by a control handle 14, each fork having a cam groove 9 engaged by a pin 11 fixed eccentrically in a quadrant 10 which is journalled on a fixed pin 12 and which meshes with a quadrant 13 fixed on the spindle 8, the two grooves 9 being oppositely shaped so that both gears 4 may be held out of engagement or either may be engaged, the other remaining disengaged. The pins 11 may be carried by the forks and the grooves 9 formed in the quadrants 10. Alternatively, the gears 4 may be loose on the shafts 2, 3 and in constant mesh with the driven gear, being selectively coupled to their shafts by clutch collars controlled by the forks. In the form shown in Fig. 5, quadrants 16, 17 fast on the handle-operated spindle 15 have cam slots 21 engaged by pins 22 on arms 20 extending from the two forks 19, which are pivoted on a spindle 25; or the pins may be on the quadrants and the slots in the arms 20.
