Abstract

687,433. Electromagnetic switches. ELECTRICAL APPARATUS CO., Ltd., WALTON, J. R., and WOODGER, F. N. Aug. 22, 1951 [Sept. 15, 1950], No. 22738/50. Class 38 (v) A shock-proof contactor comprises a pair of arms 15, 15a mounted on parallel shafts 14, 14a and carrying E shaped armatures 18, 18a adapted to move together into engagement on energization of the coil 10. The arms also carry contacts adapted to engage each other, Fig. 3 (not shown) and are biased by a tension spring 25 arranged between arms 19, 19a fixed to bars 16, 16a fixed to the arms 15, 15a. In the form shown the bars 16, 16a each bridge two bars 15 or 15a. The arms 15 and 15a are also linked by links 33, 33a to a rotary member 31 which compels the arms to move either towards or away from each other simultaneously. In the event of shock, both arms try to move in the same direction but are prevented by the member 31 which is pressed against its seating and offers frictional resistance to movement; Limitation of movement is provided by a slotted link 28 or in a modification, Fig. 4, by the members 16, 16a being fixed to members 37, 37a connected by slotted links 35, 36. In this last arrangement auxiliary contacts are made and broken by pins 41, 42 in the slots 39, 40 engaging or leaving the parallel legs of contacts 43, 44.
