Abstract
896,401. Electromagnetic relays. DOWTY ELECTRICS Ltd. Aug. 20, 1958 [May 21, 1957; Oct. 17, 1957], Nos. 16046/57 and 32403/57. Class 38 (5). A multi - contact electromagnetic relay has one or more operating rods 17 of slightly elastic material such as nylon, with pairs of projections 18, 19 which grip the moving contact strips 8, 9 between them. The armature 4 is pivoted at 5 and has secured to it by a spring clip 25, a pin 24 which engages in a slotted hole 23 in the rod 17 for each bank of contacts (only one bank shown). During assembly the rods 17 are passed through holes 21 (Fig. 6) in the moving strips 8, 9 and turned through 90 degrees so that the projections 18, 19 grip each strip. The strips are all of channel section for the major part of their length so that they tend to bend about their flat part adjacent to the supporting stack 15. This arrangement forms a pivoted moving contact with a rigid connection to the operating-rod 17, so that if one contact pair are welded together the other contact cannot operate. The fixed contact strips 11 . . . 14 are located by nylon nuts 29 on a metal rod 28 which passes through clearance holes 27, 31 in the fixed and moving contact strips.
