Abstract
686,772. Endless-bucket conveyers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Jan. 26, 1951. [Jan. 26, 1950] No. 2091/50. Class 78 (i). In an overlapping bucket conveyer, the buckets are turned in a controlled manner by abutment means which act solely on cam members provided on the sides of the buckets. As shown, a pair of endless chains 1 are connected at intervals by transverse axles 4 and between adjacent axles buckets 12 are pivotally mounted on studs associated with the link pins of the chain. The buckets have lips 17A, 17B adapted to engage the axles, one underneath and one on top, to prevent swinging of the buckets but allow them to be turned over or tipped for discharge. After the buckets have been discharged on a horizontal stretch forming the end part of the conveying run, each bucket, by means of its dumping cam 15, is turned over white passing over and downwardly from a curve wheeL 8 on to the return run, for the purpose of reducing swinging of the buckets at the commencement of the conveying run. The downwardly turned end 20 of a track 21 first engages the forward end of each bucket cam to initiate turning after which this end of the cam is received by a star wheel 19, which has been positioned as shown in Fig. 1 by an axle 4 acting on one of its arms 26. The star wheel is positioned to be engaged by the bucket stud su that the latter rotates the star wheel causing the arm 26<SP>1</SP> on which the end of the bucket cam rests to rotate the bucket about the bucket stud into inverted position, after which a following axle positions the star wheel for the next operation. Each star wheel is mounted on a shaft 22 carried by bearings 23 each of which is resiliently mounted between two springs 28, 29 to allow limited movement forwards and rearwards.
