Abstract
685,971. Wire-strainers. GILL STAMPINGS, Ltd., H. Oct. 31, 1951 [Dec. 28, 1950], No. 31523/50. Class 45 A tensioning and fastening device for a wire, rope or the like 16 comprising a fixture element 1 having two spaced parts 3, each apertured for the reception of a short bar 10 which has one or a number of peripherally spaced approximately radial projections 11, one or both of the apertures in the parts 3, having one or more inwardly projecting shoulders or steps 9 and the apertures being of a size to permit the bar to move between a position in which it can be rotated in one direction to wind a wire or the like on the bar to tension it and a position in which it is held against rotation in the opposite direction by engagement between a projection 11 and a step 9, the bar being biased towards the latter position by the tension on the wire or like. As shown each aperture has one step 9 and the bar 10 has four radial projections. The wire 16 is threaded through a hole in the bar and when this is turned anti-clockwise by means of a spanner engaging the approximately rectangular section formed by the projections it rotates in the lower part of the apertures. When the spanner is released the tension in the wire pulls the bar intothe upper part of the apertures and one of the projections 11 engages the shoulders 9. Axial movement of the bar is prevented by split pins.
