Class 7 (v) [Also in Group XXVIII] In a motor vehicle accessory system having an electric motor 1 for starting the vehicle engine, an accessory, such as a hood-actuating mechanism, with a piston movable by pneumatic pressure, a pump 26 constituting a source of operating air pressure for the accessory, the pump being operatively connected to the starting motor 1 and means, such as switches 11, whereby the starting motor 1 may be energized without cranking the engine, there is provided a single control, for example handle 25, operable to energize the motor 1 for operating the pump without cranking the engine and simultaneously to control a valve' 19 whereby the pump 26 may be placed in communication selectively with either side of the accessory piston and the accessory is operatively connected both to the intake manifold of the engine and to the pump for actuation by the differential between the pump and manifold pressures. Closure of the starting circuit 6 energizes a solenoid 5 and effects engagement of the pinion 4 with the flywheel 3 as well as closing a switch 8 to connect the battery 10 to the starting motor 1 in order ,to crank the engine. The output of the rotary pump or compressor 26 is controlled by the manual valve 19, the valve member 22 of which is biased into the neutral position by springs 23 and 24; the valve member 22 is formed with laterial openings 33 that open into a central bore 32. and embodies a reduced part 34. The valve body has ports 27<SP>1</SP>, 29', 21', 20' connected, respectively, to the pump 26, engine intake manifold and either end of the jack cylinder. The member 22 has fixed thereto a finger 30, which upon moving the member to either of its extreme positions, in order to extend or retract the jack, closes one of the two switches 11 so causing energization of motor 1 without actuation of solenoid 5. With the member 22 in the neutral position the positive and negative air pressure generated when the motor 1 is operating to crank the engine is discharged through a vent 35 in the valve body.
