Abstract
In the innoculation of iron, the innoculant, preferably in powder or granular form, is added to a stream of metal and the stream conveyed to the base of a mould or ladle. The metal from a furnace may be poured into a tundish having a stem extending to the bottom of a ladle, the innoculant, cerium, magnesium, or calcium being added to the tundish. The innoculant may also be added to the stream of metal entering the ingate of a mould, which ingate is above the bottom of the mould. The innoculant may be added in the process of Specification 523,965.
