Abstract
684,424. Magnetic tests. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 28, 1950 [Sept. 28, 1949], No. 10518/50. Class 37. A magnetic specimen 72 to be tested is mounted on a rotatable support 69 between two magnetic rings 64, 65 so that the flux enters and leaves the specimen edgewise; either the specimen or the magnetic system is rotated and the torque on the magnetic system or the specimen is measured. As shown, the magnets 64, 65 are rotated and the deflection of the turntable 69 against a control spring 76 is indicated by pointer 79. Preferably the magnets 64, 65 are electromagnets energized from sliprings 81, 82. The flux density in the specimen may be measured by a search coil in the gap between the specimen and magnet, the speed of rotation is measured by any known means, and with a knowledge of the torque the magnetic loss in the specimen can be calculated.
