684,259. Labelling machines. FORGROVE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., RUSSELL, A., HOPTON, A., and CARTER, A. F. April 10, 1951. [April 11, 1950] No. 8876/50. Drawings to Specification. Class 73. [Also in Group XVII] A wrapping and labelling machine comprises a discharge platform fitted with side plates, means for feeding wrapped articles in succession along the platform to a sealing station, a reel carrying a web of end-seal material, intermittently-operating mechanism for feeding the web forward step-by-step to present its leading edge opposite an aperture in one of the side plates at the sealing station, and a member carrying a knife and presser which is periodically reciprocated transversely of the platform to sever an end-seal from the web and press it through the aperture against the end of the package. The end-seals may be caused to adhere by gum applied to the end of the package or to the web. Preferably, a web coated on its inner face with a thermoplastic material is used and the presser is heated. The machine described is identical with that described in Specification 684,252.
