Abstract

684,131. Spring forks for cycles. FREYLER, A. B. Jan. 10, 1951 [Sept. 30, 1950], No. 763/51. Class 136 (iii) In a suspension for the non-driven wheels of single track vehicles, such as bicycles, a spring body 21 is interposed between two parts 7, 14 of a spring housing which are rotatable in relation to one another, the spring body 21 taking up the mutual turning of the parts, the part 7 being a belt-shaped hollow body connected to the non-rotatable axle of the vehicle by a lateral hook 8 and the part 14 being of mushroom shape, connected to the wheel fork and guided by the cylindrical end 10 of its stem 11 in a central bore 12 in the hollow body 7, while the head 9 of the part 14 is supported against the mouth of the part 7. The two parts 7, 14 of the housing are connected by a threaded bolt 17 having a head 18 and passing through a continuous threaded bore 16 in the stem 11. Ball bearings 26 are provided between the parts 7, 14 to ensure easy turning. A bush 22 is inserted with a pinch fit into the inner bore of the spring body 21 which is in the form of a ring of rectangular crosssection made of rubber or other resilient material. The bush 22 and the stem 11 have a hexagonal or other non-circular cross-section. The periphery of the spring body is secured to the part 7 by radial pressure, adhesion or, as shown in Fig. 4, grooves 23 may be provided in the walls of the hollow body. Alternatively a metal sleeve 30 (Fig. 8) is provided on the spring body 21, a cavity 31 being formed in the sleeve 30 to receive a projection 32 on the body 7. The part 14 may be replaced by a conical body 24 (Fig. 6) having ribs 25 to engage a rubber ring 29 of circular cross-section. A hollow body 27 is provided having ribs 28.
