Abstract
1288501 Strut-type suspensions SOC DES AUTOMOBILES SIMCA 5 Jan 1970 [8 Jan 1969] 480/70 Headings B7D and B7H] In a strut-type suspension for a steerable wheel comprising a wheel carrier 1 rigidly secured to a telescopic damper 5 and connected to a transverse arm or spring 3, the wheel carrier 1 has an upper arm 29 provided with clamp 30 secured about the damper 5 and a lower arm 20 which is connected by a ball joint 23 to the spring 3 and rigidly engaged with the damper. The clamp 30 is formed by a semicircular housing on the upper arm and a clamping member 32 integral with a steering arm 11. The lower arm 20 has a tapped bore 21 into which is screwed the socket of the ball joint 23, and a bore 28 which receives the lower end 27 of the damper 5. A cylindrical portion 14 of the carrier 1 houses a double-row ball bearing 15 which is retained by a ring 16 and receives a wheel shaft 17 secured by a nut 19. In another embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the pin of the ball joint is received in a tapered bore in the lower arm and the socket is mounted in the end of the spring. The pin has a threaded end onto which is screwed a securing nut and a threaded bore in the end of the damper body.
