683,985. Cutting sheet material. CARR, R. E. Sept. 24, 1951. [Sept. 22, 1950] No. 23256/50. Class 31 (i). In an appliance for cutting sheet material comprising a base 1 provided with a groove or slot 2 and having at opposite ends thereof supports 4, 5 in which guide rails 6, 7 are mounted for a carriage 8 carrying a cutter 9 which is adapted to enter the groove or slot, the carriage being provided with one or more rollers 11, 12 for running on one or more track rails 13, 14 secured to the base, the cutter has a cutting edge 17 when the material is to be cut from the top surface downwardly but when the material is to be cut from the under surface upwardly, the cutting edge is sloped in the opposite direction as indicated at 17<SP>1</SP>. Adjustable stops are provided for determining the position of the material to be cut. The carriage may be provided with two pairs of rollers, one pair being arranged in advance of the cutter and the other pair to the rear thereof.
