682,875. Ratchet gearing. WHITE & CO., Ltd., J. S., and HOARE, A. Nov. 6, 1950 [Nov. 21, 1949], No. 29725/49. Class 80 (iii). Automatic reversing ratchet gear comprises a double-nosed pawl 3 co-operating with slots 2 on the rim of the driven wheel 1 and pivoted on an arm 5 oscillated by a rod 6 from a driving crank 7, the pawl being urged into either of its operative positions by a toggle spring 10 and being automatically reversed by a pin 13 projecting from the wheel 1 into the path of a finger 9 on the pawl, the slots 2a., 2b, Fig. 6, on the wheel in the vicinity of the pin 13 being blocked at one end so as to be off-set axially, while the noses 3a, 3b of the pawl are also offset but in different directions, so that, in the event of the pin 13 failing, the wheel is not over-driven in either direction.
