Abstract
682,572. Lathe details. HARBECK, M., HARBECK, M., STEFFEN, H. and STEFFEN, E. March 5, 1951 [March 4, 1950], No. 5207/51. Class 83 (iii). A clamping arrangement for the tailstock of a lathe &c. comprises two clamping jaws arranged underneath the centre sleeve and oppositely movable along a horizontal axis by means of an operating lever secured to a vertical spindle which lies behind the tailstock and the axis of which intersects that of the jaws. The centre sleeve 1 is engaged by a pair of clamping members 3, 4, the former of which is pinned to a transverse spindle 6, while the latter moves freely thereon. A bush 5 is pinned to the rear end of the spindle 6 leaving a space between the bush and clamping member 4 which communicates with a vertical bore 14. A clamping lever 11 serves when rotated to move a plunger 9 in the bore and this movement may transmit clamping pressure to the members 3, 4, by filling the space below the plunger with a heavy viscous material. In a modification a dished spring may be interposed between the bush 5 and the adjacent clamping member and the plunger bears on the upper convex face of the spring to effect clamping.
