Abstract

682,320. Casting beams, poles &c. from concrete &c. STRESSED CONCRETE DESIGN, Ltd. (Blaton, A., and Blaton, E.). March 6,1950 [Feb. 7,1949], No. 3353/49. Class 87 (ii). A passage is formed in the beam &c. by the use of a core comprising a number of individual core members 1a, 1b of similar cross-section adjacent one another, these core members being of flexible and deformable material, e.g. rubber, and at least one of the core members being supported in the mould by stiffening means extending longitudinally thereof. As shown, the stiffening means comprises two thin flat metal strips 5, 8, the lower strip having upwardly-extending flanges 6 which locate the core member 1a laterally and the upper strip having similar flanges 9 which extend both upwardly and downwardly. Another strip may be interposed between the upper surface of member 1b and the concrete in the mould. The passage formed may be straight, but as shown it is curved, and the metal strips are sufficiently flexible to follow the curvature of the core. The core is supported by bolts or pegs 3 extending across the mould, and is held down by similar bolts &c. 4. The core members are hollow. Specification 690,981, [Group X], is referred to.
