682,273. Stuffing-box packing. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG. AKT.-GES. May 10, 1950 [July 7, 1949], No. 11673/50. Class 122(v) In a stuffing-box packing for piston rods in which two divided packing'rings 2 housed in a sleeve ring 1 are urged inwardly by an annular member 3 comprising elastic and non-elastic portions, the elastic portions are housed in the non-elastic portion to protect them from the direct action of hot gases that may escape through the packing ring joints. Three U-shaped non-elastic portions 4 encircle the packing rings 2 and are connected by helical springs.5 housed in the portions 4 and attached at their ends to holding pieces 6 joined by pins 9 to the portions 4. To facilitate assembly of the member 3 on the packing rings one of the holding pieces 6 is provided with an inclined slot 11 which slides over its associated pin 9. The member 3 is angularly located by a radial pin 12.
