Abstract

682,265. Two-part couplings. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Feb. 8, 1951 [Feb. 16, 1950], No. 4051/50. Class 38 (i). [Also in Groups XXV and XXXV] An insert, for example a plug-pin or socket, is located in a supporting body by means of a washer 5 engaging a circumferential groove 4 in the insert so as to form a shoulder for engaging a co-operating shoulder on the body, the washer comprising two or more parts of ferromagnetic material retained in the groove by magnetic attraction between said parts. Fig. 1 shows a combined plug-and-socket connector, the washer 5 on each pin 2a or socket 2c being located between shoulders formed on two insulating members 1, 7 mounted in a housing 8. Sealing washers 6 are clamped against the washers 5. In Fig. 2, the washers 5 comprise two semi-circular segments 5a, 5b magnetized so as to have poles as shown.
