Abstract
681,954. Endless conveyers. HOUILLERES DU BASSIN DU NORD ET DU PAS DE CALAIS. Nov. 14, 1950. [Nov. 15, 1949] No. 27773/51. Addition to 651,908. Class 78 (i). the scraper conveyer of the parent Specification is modified in that each element of the conveyer comprises, for the passage of the scraper chains, a detachable upper trough, of U-shaped section, supported between the side cheekplates of the element above the lower return trough. The lower trough structure comprises boxsection side walls a which form the side cheek-plates of the element, connected by transverse girders a<SP>2</SP> and at intervals by rests n on which the detachable upper trough m rests, the side walls of the upper trough fitting closely within the walls a. Guides k and l are respectively fitted to the upper and lower trough sections and are bent at the ends of the sections at an angle a as set out in the 2 parent Specification. A flap b<SP>1</SP> is secured to the upstream end of the base of each upper trough section and is arranged to co-operate with a tongue b<SP>2</SP> on the downstream end of the base of the adjacent upper trough section in the manner described in the parent Specification. The said. downstream end of the upper trough section is also provided with eyes m<SP>1</SP> into which bolts m<SP>2</SP> in the side walls a are screwed to hold it in position, the tongue b<SP>2</SP> thus holding by means of the flap b<SP>1</SP> the upstream end of the next trough section. In order to allow bending in both directions in both horizontal and vertical planes the trough sections are connected by hook members 5, Fig. 6, secured within the side walls a at the upstream end of a section which are locked between lower blocks t<SP>1</SP> secured to the downstream end of an adjoining section of the side walls a and upper blocks t<SP>2</SP> secured to the downstream end of an adjoining upper trough section, the side wall a at this point being cut away for this purpose. The hooks can move horizontally a distance A for allowing horizontal bending. The upper surface of each hook has a curved portion s<SP>2</SP> of radius r to allow for vertical bending with an upwardly open angle. The upper surfaces of blocks t' are inclined as shown to allow for vertical bending with a downwardly open angle. Upon removal of an upper trough section the hooks of an adjacent section are freed so that a lower trough section can be removed after first removing two upper trough sections. To reduce wear of the trough by the scraper chains when the structure is bent horizontally, Fig. 5, wearing strips p chamfered at p<SP>2</SP> and curved to the minimum radius of the scraper chains are secured to the ends of both upper and lower trough sections, the length of the strips p being such that each strip bends through half the maximum angle # of bending of the structure in the horizontal plane. Specifications 651,908 and 665,661 are referred to.
