Abstract

681,371. Cathode-ray tubes. ELECTRIC MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 21, 1950 [Sept. 27, 1949], No. 24780/49. Class 39(i) [Also in Group XL(b)] A mounting arrangement for a cathode ray tube comprises a supporting member surrounding the front end of the tube solely to which the tube and/or focusing and deflection members on the neck of the tube are anchored, the arrangement being such that any whip of a cabinet containing the tube produces no tendency to break the neck of the tube. The supporting member may be an aperture rim in a cabinet wall against which, or a mask around the aperture, the tube is braced by webbing 23 connected to anchorages 5 on the wall by springs 4. The deflection coils 8 are likewise braced to the same or different anchorages on the wall by spring loaded webbing 19 and to the coils is adjustably connected a focusing magnet by metal straps having spring loaded adjusting screens 15, the magnet resting on a rubber supporting ring 18. Alternatively the auxiliary, i.e. deflecting and focusing, units could be supported solely by the neck of the tube without the use of webbing. In a modification the tube is mounted on a bracket upstanding from a chassis having an arcuate upper surface and an annular metal band defining a circular aperture against which, or a mask unit, the tube and neck mounted components are braced by spring loaded webbing connected to ears on the band.
