392,801. Cathode-ray tubes ; television. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA, 570, Lexington Avenue, New York, U.S.A. Sept. 10, 1932, No. 25276. Convention date, Sept. 11, 1931. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii).] A mounting for a cathode-ray tube in apparatus for recording wave-form and for television comprises a frusto-conical protective casing 19 'from which the tube 10 is readily removable and which surrounds the greater part of the tube and takes part of its weight on a yielding support such as a felt ring 22. The remainder of the weight is taken by a socket 24 for the contact plugs 23 at the lower end of the tube. In a television receiver, a base 13 forms part of a support for other units 14 of the receiver and carries electromagnets 16 for deflecting the cathode ray. A box-shaped screen 17 and a cylindrical screen 25 surround the magnets 16 and the lower part of the tube. The surrounding cabinet 10a has a hinged lid 26 carrying a mirror 27 for reflecting the picture produced on the upper end of the tube. To screen the tube, the casing 19 may be of sheet or perforated metal or of wire mesh or of non-conductive material coated with conductive material.
