Abstract

958,172. Electron beam apparatus. LITTON INDUSTRIES Inc. Aug. 10, 1962 [Sept. 11, 1961], No. 30736/62. Heading H1D. [Also in Division H4] An assembly for adjustably mounting an externally positioned component for a cathoderay tube comprises a supporting structure 12 for the component 10 having an outer convex spherical surface 14, and radially adjustable suspension means 18 engaging the spherical surface. As shown, a focusing coil 10 is secured to a support ring 12 which is suspended in an outer ring 16 by three coplanar tubes or rods 18. These members 18 have inner spherical end surfaces 28, and are screwed into sleeves 22 which are pivotally mounted on ring 16 so that the support ring 12 can be moved in directions perpendicular to its axis as well as being swivelled about any diameter. The outer ring 16 is secured to a chassis or frame to which the cathode-ray tube is fixed, and may be moved in a direction parallel to the tube axis, Fig. 3 (not shown). Deflection coils, permanent magnets and electrostatic deflection plates may be similarly supported.
