Abstract

681,322. Liquid fuel burners. HOBSON Ltd., H. M. June 27, 1951 [July 28, 1950], No. 18901/50. Class 75(i) A liquid fuel burner nozzle comprises a main swirl chamber 28, Fig. 1, and a pilot swirl chamber 24 each adjacent and open to the nozzle outlet, and a normally closed valve, e.g. a ball valve 17 controlling the flow of fuel from the nozzle inlet 13 to the main swirl chamber 28, the valve 17 being arranged to open when the fuel pressure reaches a predetermined value. When the fuel pressure is low the fuel is supplied only to the pilot swirl chamber 24 through a filter 29, a pair of bores 30 in a sleeve 14 and swirl passages 31 in the rear face of a plate 22. When the fuel pressure rises to a certain value the ball valve 17 is lifted off its seat, against the action of a spring 18, to admit fuel to a chamber 32 in the sleeve 14 from which the fuel flows through a pair of passages 33, Fig. 5, and swirl ports 34 in the plate 22 to the main swirl chamber 28. When the fuel pressure rises to a certain higher value a further ball valve 20 is lifted off its seat, admitting fuel to a chamber 35 from which the fuel flows through four longitudinal passages 36 (not shown), in the sleeve 14 and co-operating swirl ports in the plate 22, to the main swirl chamber 28 thereby increasing the discharge from the latter.
