Abstract

680,422. Seamed joints. DEFAUW, M. Dec. 31, 1947 [May 27, 1946], No. 35403/47 Class 83 (iv). [Also in Group XVII] In a method of making a metal drum with seamed end covers and rolling rings moulded on the body of the drum, at least one reinforcing ring is introduced into the seamed joint between the body and each end cover and a reinforcing element is located internally within one or more of the rings. The reinforcing ring 1 in the joint between the body 2 and cover 3 may be a plain ring of rectangular section as shown in Fig. 1. Alternatively the ring may be hollow or may be of L-shape or may be of H -shape in cross-section. Other forms are shown in Figs. 4 and 5. A number of reinforcing rings may be used, as shown in Fig. 9. The joint may be reinforced by a ring 13 of angle section on the outside of the joint, Fig. 13. In other forms, Figs. 15, 16, a part 7 or 8 of the reinforcing ring extends downwardly along the inside of the drum wall. The internal reinforcing member 10 for the pressed-out rolling ring may be an anglesectioned ring, Fig. 18, a solid or hollow member of circular section, Fig. 19, or of semi-circular section, Fig. 22. The wall of the drum may also be reinforced in the region of the bung-hole.
