Abstract

679,887. Moulding shoe heels &c. SVIT, NARODNI PODNIK. July 10, 1950 [July 18, 1949], No. 17168/50. Class 87(ii) A blank P of rubber or similar thermoplastic material is placed in a mould cavity D. of greater volume than the blank. The mould parts 1, 7, which are heated, are closed and air and other gases evolved from the material are removed from the mould cavity through a valve 4a. A mandrel 8, slidably mounted in the part 7, is then moved downwardly, by hydraulic or pneumatic pressure, into the material, to cause it to flow into all parts of the mould, see Fig. 4. After vulcanization, the part 7 and mandrel 8 are raised, and simultaneously compressed air is supplied through a valve 4 to the underside of the moulded heel to force the heel out of the mould cavity. The mandrel 8 has a recess, Fig. 6 (not shown), to ensure that it retains the moulded heel as it is removed from the mould cavity. The heel is stripped from the mandrel, by stopping the upward movement of the mandrel. Studs 3 form depressions for nails in the heels.
